CSCC Reports 2004: Tryweryn Tour, 4-5 September 2004
A small select group – Peter, Hilary and Tiffany – made
it to the Tryweryn tour at the beginning of September.
With only one car we were forced to use the car shuttle which worked
perfectly – the shuttle was waiting for us at the end of each trip
in the car park at Bala. We managed two trips down the lower river on
the Saturday with one run on the top section. This was Tiff's first attempt
on the top section which was very brave of her considering she hadn’t
paddled for 18 months. Tiff only had two small swims, both on rapids
she successfully negotiated on the Sunday. Bala Mill was also negotiated
successfully. Pete's confidence and ability improved dramatically as
well with another swim free weekend. Both Tiff and Peter were practising
their
rolling technique in any quiet water they could find. The top section
was noticeably quieter than the August tour weekend and the absence of
rafts was much appreciated.
We opted for the comforts of a B&B in Bala, run by Shirley Pugh
which I think is a new one for the club. We also went along to the Films
and Food evening on the Saturday to hear a presentation from one of the
staff members at the Tryweryn who had been on a first descent down a
river in North East India. Altogether another great weekend on white
water in warm weather.
